    Zoloft metabolism

I just came off of 50mg of Zoloft a month ago after being on it for 10 months and I gained close to 25 lbs despite working out MORE and eating more frequently. Since being off of it, the weight is melting off as my metabolism speeds up, but I really don't have any idea what the hell was going on! My doctor claims that Zoloft doesn't make patients gain weight, but other websites say otherwise. Did anyone else have this problem with any other anti-depressants / anti-anxiety meds? How long will it take to get my metabolism back on track? I have to say I had the exact same problem...about ironic..go on it not to be depressed but wind up gaining weight and being depressed about that. I have to say I had the exact same problem...about ironic..go on it not to be depressed but wind up gaining weight and being depressed about that. I cut my 50mgs in half at the advice of my doctor and was on them for about two weeks until they were gone. I bumped mine back from 50mg to 25mg and dropped some of the weight but not all. I can't remember how long it took me but I dropped about 10 pounds once I lowered the mg. I bumped mine back from 50mg to 25mg and dropped some of the weight but not all. I can't remember how long it took me but I dropped about 10 pounds once I lowered the mg. The following two weeks were really hard as Zoloft has a lot of withdrawal symptoms (I was mainly dizzy- like my blood sugar was too low or something) because of the short half-life. zoloft nursing Seeking help for depression -- and following through with antidepressant medication -- is a courageous and important first step on the road to recovery. But too often, those who take that step find themselves faced with another troubling problem: weight gain. Experts say that for up to 25% of people, most antidepressant medications -- including the popular SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drugs like Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft -- can cause a weight gain of 10 pounds or more. "This is a phenomenon that I first noticed years ago when Prozac first came on the market. It didn't initially show up in the clinical trials because most of them were eight to 12 weeks in length, and the weight gain generally occurs with longer use. But it's definitely one of the side effects of this and other antidepressant medications," says Norman Sussman, MD, a psychiatrist and associate dean for postgraduate medical programs at the NYU School of Medicine. A review published in 2003 in the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine stated that while weight gain is a possible side effect with SSRI antidepressant drugs, it may be more likely to occur after six months or more of use.

Sertraline Zoloft. by Nervous here comes the bad side of Zoloft. I have just been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. Following oral once-daily ZOLOFT dosing over the range of 50 to 200 mg for 14. The principal initial pathway of metabolism for sertraline is N-demethylation.

Sertraline is used for a number of conditions, including major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder (SAD). The comparative efficacy of sertraline and TCAs for melancholic depression has not been studied. A 1998 review suggested that, due to its pharmacology, sertraline may be more efficacious than other SSRIs and equal to TCAs for the treatment of melancholic depression. A meta-analysis of 12 new-generation antidepressants showed that sertraline and escitalopram are the best in terms of efficacy and acceptability in the acute-phase treatment of adults with unipolar MDD. Sertraline used for the treatment of depression in elderly (older than 60) patients was superior to placebo and comparable to another SSRI fluoxetine, and TCAs amitriptyline, nortriptyline (Pamelor) and imipramine. Sertraline had much lower rates of adverse effects than these TCAs, with the exception of nausea, which occurred more frequently with sertraline. In addition, sertraline appeared to be more effective than fluoxetine or nortriptyline in the older-than-70 subgroup. placebo in elderly patients showed a statistically significant (that is, unlikely to occur by chance), but clinically very modest improvement in depression and no improvement in quality of life. A meta-analysis on SSRIs and SNRIs that look at partial response (defined as at least a 50% reduction in depression score from baseline) found that sertraline, paroxetine and duloxetine were better than placebo. Sertraline hydrochloride belongs to a class of antidepressant agents known as selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Despite distinct structural differences between compounds in this class, SSRIs possess similar pharmacological activity. As with other antidepressant agents, several weeks of therapy may be required before a clinical effect is seen. SSRIs are potent inhibitors of neuronal serotonin reuptake and terminal autoreceptors. The overall clinical effect of increased mood and decreased anxiety is thought to be due to adaptive changes in neuronal function that leads to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission. Side effects include dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction and headache (see Toxicity section below for a more detailed listing of side effects).

Worked brilliantly for that, but over time, less than a year, the dry mouth, stuffy nose, and tingling almost numb toes, on my right foot, I'd had enough. Reasons being more than these symptoms, constant nausea, severe abdominal pain, fatigue, muscle weakness. After several days on Clonidine, I began to feel slightly dizzy. BP went down to 72 over 38 and stayed that way for the next 45 minutes. Back to HCTZ which doesn't cause this kind of problem. Due to the making you sleepy, calm next day, unless steed out. Dr told me not to take them anymore I was having cold sweats and she dropped my matrifen patches I was on 50my for last 4 years now put on 2 patches 25 and 12 never worn 2 before and told to stop taking clonidine feel so rough like flu symptoms but definitely not got flu Like all medications, this one had serious side effects,, dizziness, sickness, stomach problems, and dangerously low blood pressure,it artificially lowers "blood pressure". Go to to Diltiazem ER, when BP was not staying down and reaction to Beta Blockers. Check drug interaction charts before you take anything. I have been unable too eat, and when I did, pain and diarrhea like water followed. I am already am taking hypertension medications, and detoxing from this drug has spiked my blood pressure. Then on 16th day, got home from short shopping trip when I got so dizzy I had to sit down immediately to keep from falling, I got heart palpitations, and I began to feel like I might pass out. Then it very gradually went up to 100 over 70 and finally 120 over 80. If they say may interact don't accept make Dr change it. Once your on clonodine over a year or more your Blood Pressure will get so high without it you will have a heart attack or stroke. Now wake to palpitations and nausea every single time since stopping this "medication" three days ago. It really helped with the anxiety, and stability of my blood preasure. Want to learn the dangers of all medications and how to get off of them, and what to take naturally? This is a curse from hell you cannot stop or change without dr supervision due to possible stroke or heart attack. Side effects go away after a year, expect to lose teeth, have dry mouth you never thought possible but worst please understand, if you takecthis longvterm fir anything ..to have hypertension and High Blood Pressure when you have become accustomed and addicted tovit. I am not sure why, but I love it because I can handle more temperature range so I can live a mostly normal life and go out more. Off course Dr.s say itvisnot addictive, however RN and those who do not lie, call it Blow Back. It does make me tired but usually that is if I took it for a bad anxiety attack, which is exhausting in itself. Meaning tryingvto stop it leads to physical withdrawal, eventually ending in stroke or death. Good only for short term, perhaps has a place in treating short term addictions, but do not take foecanything but hypertension unless you want hypertension, no joke. with the added perk that it also helps with my angioedema (heat related). I am much more alert when taking it now as my body has adjusted to it much better. I started taking clonidine because of my anxiety attacks. The only nega Clonidine isn't a medication you should stop cold turkey as your blood pressure can spike.
