Plaquenil is also known as a treatment for malaria, a blood-borne parasite spread by mosquitoes in many tropical and sub-tropical environments. The usual dose is between one and two tablets per day (200 to 400 mg per day). When Plaquenil works, most patients start to feel improvement after 8-12 weeks. When patients start Plaquenil, doctors usually have them try it for 3 months before they assess the patient to determine if it is working.

Off plaquenil for upcoming surgery--feeling ILL I'm surprised that some of you have had to stop taking plaquenil due to surgeries, I have gone through numerous of surgeries and I have another surgery coming up in January and my rheumy does not have me stop my plaquenil she said there is no harm in me continuing it. I wonder why some rheumy's keep us on and some take us off of them. Karen
