Plaquenil is a DMARD which has been prescribed for years to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. When the first biologic DMARD received FDA-approval in 1998, and as other biologics followed in subsequent years, it appeared as though Plaquenil would become less prescribed. Today, Plaquenil and other antimalarials are also used to treat and help prevent symptoms caused by certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis RA, systemic lupus erythematosus, and discoid lupus, even though these diseases are not caused by malaria parasites. Plaquenil belongs in a class of medications known as disease-modifying. Plaquenil is being used to treat Covid 19. Both of my grandmothers had it, two of my aunts have it, and even my own father shows symptoms. When I turned 18 I had a lot of blood work done. Time after time it came back positive, but rheumatologists still told me that there was no way because I was “too young”. I even had doctors telling.

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine.
