Prednisone can however cause oral thrush which would make your tongue feel furry, sore and white in color. You should see your doctor if your symptoms continue.https:// also have experienced a "terrible taste" (more metallic than anything) and it has changed the flavor of food. Not taking any other drugs so can't blame something else. I am on 50mg once a day for five days and I have experienced this effect since the first day of usage. Makes me want to eat something sweet all the time to get rid of it but I know that's the worst thing to do. I was on steroids for 3 weeks for systemic poison ivy and I developed the burned tongue feeling and metallic taste in my mouth.

Treatments of taste and smell disorders are directed towards the underlying cause. Nasal or sinus conditions should be managed with either medication or surgical therapy, depending on the severity of the disease. Endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism should be treated appropriately. Medications that may be causing the smell and/or taste. Your taste buds live on your tongue, soft palate, and the back of your mouth where you swallow. Each of these specialized taste detectors have just one of 4 different types of taste receptor cells, each taste bud specializing in picking up only one type of taste sweet, salty, sour or bitter. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant after taste belching bloated or full feeling burning feeling in the chest or stomach burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings burning, dry, or itching eyes change in taste changes in vision confusion constipation

I assumed it was carisoprodol (muscle relaxer) because I'm a retired nurse and don't recall patients on prednisone complaining of this. I looked my symptoms up on line and I found the condition called burning mouth syndrome which sounds like what I have been experienced. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done about it. I just started taking prednisone and carisoprodol yesterday and was wondering which one was causing the strange taste sensation. 3 times a week and have had the horrible taste in my mouth since day one. I only hope that when I get off the prednisone that I get my sense of taste back. I have been off the steroids for 3 months and the symptoms have subsided some what but are still there and food doesn't taste the same.

Taste Changes, Including Metallic Taste. Sometimes, a medication can alter your sense of taste. A change in the body's ability to sense tastes is called dysgeusia. Some drugs can make food taste. Normally you can’t feel your taste buds, but sometimes they swell up. Inflamed taste buds can become irritated and painful. Having swollen taste buds may make eating or drinking uncomfortable. You may start out with dryness or a metallic, burning taste in your mouth. Then you’ll see white patches on your tongue, cheeks, and gums. They can be tiny dots or lines that make a lace-like.

My Take on New Ocular Screening Guidelines for Plaquenil. Multifocal Electroretinopathy measures electrical responses of various cell types in the retina. It is thought that although the bull’s eye seen on ophthalmic exam represents a disruption of the pigmented part of the retina, it is the photoreceptors that are the targets of hydroxychloroquine toxicity.
